11 Fun Fall Family Activities
Fall heralds not only the changing of the leaves but bearable temperatures (if you are in the south) and an abundance of fun activities that your entire family is sure to enjoy. Below, you will find 11 fun fall family activities that are sure to be a hit with all ages.
- Leaf jumping and collecting. This is an activity that smaller kids will enjoy. Once the leaves begin to collect in your yard, rake them into assorted piles. Then allow your little ones to jump in as the leaves rain down upon them. Rake, pile, and repeat! For kids that are a little older, take a walk and make a game out of collecting the most unique leaves for cool leaf tracing projects at home.
- Go apple picking. Search your area for local orchards. Many orchards offer many fun activities with the main event being – fruit picking. Gather as much as you can and let your family help you with some fall cooking.
- Get ready for Halloween. I’m sure your kids will agree this is the best part of Halloween. Take your family to the pumpkin patch and grab an assortment to carve and decorate. Also, consider making homemade costumes for the spooky day!
- Plant and/or pick flowers. Fall is a wonderful time to plant or pick sunflowers, marigolds, and carnations. Travel through the woods, visit a botanical garden, or even your local florist and find the flower color combinations that make you feel good.
- Play ball! From soccer to football, fall is a great time to gather the family outside and get active with a game. If you have smaller children, don’t feel pressured to play games by the book. Think of creative ways to score points and keep everyone involved.
- Go to the fair. During the fall, most city and county fairs are held. Search your local paper to get discounts on ride tickets and prepare to have fun. You and your family will enjoy mouth watering one of a kind food, rides, games, and even some entertainment.
- Go camping. Camping is great in the fall. The weather is nice for hiking. Also there will be less bugs, beautiful scenery, and great opportunities to toast marshmallows and hot dogs over a fire.
- Go to a corn maze. You will usually see these pop up at the beginning of October – right in time for Halloween. As an added bonus, look for corn mazes that have extra activities such as a kid’s play zone and a hay bale ride.
- Decorate your home. Gather your family and make it a yearly tradition. Do not become bound by Halloween decorations. You can do some awesome fall inspired decorations with hollowed out pumpkins, spare leaves, and even some twigs.
- Visit a fall festival. Check your local newspaper for the abundance of fall festivals, not only in your town, but nearby as well. These event not only offer carnivals but have booths full of unique jewelry, arts, and crafts that everyone in the family is sure to love.
- Take a bike ride. Rent or check your local thrift store for bikes and helmets (safety first). The temperature will be nice and the scenery will be beautiful. Try out a new neighborhood and you can stop for a nice fall lunch or pack a picnic basket and blanket. You are sure to find a nice location on your ride.
