Burden of Dental Bills

Ann Carrns of the NY Times’ article regarding older adults and their dental dilemma brings a clear reason why dental plans such as DentalSave, is urgently needed. Without any type of help, not only older adults, but the everyday regular person ends up neglecting their dental health due to fear of astronomical dental bills that they’re unable to pay. More often than not, putting off going to the dentist for regular checkups and dental cleaning leads to tooth decay, tooth loss, and gum disease. This leads to more complicated dental problems which becomes more expensive.

Dental plans are not a foreign concept. While a professor at NYU Dental School in the early 1980’s, Dr. Bruce Sherman, recognized a dire need for this type of service. He realized that many people are faced with a difficult position when it came to finding ways to pay for their dental bills. So he became a pioneer in the dental plan business. He set up DentalSave, formerly NYD Programs, negotiated reduced fees for dental procedures with highly regarded dentists in the New York City area for members of the dental plan. It’s a simple concept that has grown over the years and copied by other companies.
