Can untreated hearing loss lead to depression?

“Those who don’t wear hearing aids are 50 percent more likely to suffer from sadness and depression”

According to a new study, depression and other cognitive issues result from untreated hearing loss. The report, presented at the American Psychological Association’s annual conference in Toronto, also found that sufferers between 20 and 69 years of age were less than half as likely to seek assistance as those 70 and older, due to vanity, denial, or being unaware of treatment.

As summer comes to an end there are a number of things that may need to get accomplished before the hustle and bustle of Fall and Spring start up. You may need to squeeze in a visit to the doctor or dentist to get your annual checkup is out of the way. Or you might consider getting in that last trip to somewhere that you have been meaning to go to but just haven’t had that opportunity. Now, better than any other time, is the time to make your checklist and wrap things up for the summer. Here’s a look at some end of summer checklist items you ought to consider for you and your family.

Take care of your health along with the family by making appointments with the doctor, dentist and optical clinics.

  • Make your appointment with the doctor as annual checkups are always important. It’s not always easy to get time off from work and during the summer it tends to be the time when things may slow down enough to fit it in.
  • Take the kids to the dentist to make sure their teeth are in tip top shape. No cavities needing to be coming about when they are trying to concentrate on school work.
  • Visit the eye doctor to make sure there is no need to update your prescription or the kids’.

Health priorities aside, take some time out for a short trip somewhere just to get away. Maybe there is somewhere in state that you have been wanting to visit such as a local hot spot that tourists come to gather often. There are also other places such as the museum, zoo or movie theater that may be on yours or your kids’ checklist to visit at least one more time before the summer is over.

Another idea to try is visiting your local amusement park. Parks like Six Flags and Busch Gardens have various shows for kids and a number of roller coaster rides that are updated for more adventures and fun.

As we all need a break from the daily grind, there are a number of other things that can help us leave that behind, at least for a day or evening, with shopping or treating yourself to a fancy restaurant. While there, you can stock up on some last minute back-to school items such as books, writing utensils or folders or even new shoes or a new outfit to wear to work.
