If you are like many others, you are looking to decorate your home for Halloween. Breaking the bank is a scary thought, but this is one fright you can avoid this season. There are many DIY ideas that allow you to take complete control of your wallet and the decorations at hand.

  • The Spookiest Yard Cemetery: You can create a spooky cemetery right in your front or backyard. Cut the tombstone out of a large piece of cardboard and paint it grey. Once the paint dries, you can use black paint or a Sharpie to write spooky messages such as “R.I.P.” on each one. Glue a plastic yard stake to the back of each one and plant them into the ground.
  • Creepy Spiders: Create a creepy spider corner with just a few dollars. You can find a bag of spider rings and fake web in most party stores. Decorate the corner of your window or a corner of the ceiling with the web and spiders.
  • Glowing Jack-o-Lantern Jugs: Start saving your milk and water jugs as soon as possible. Use craft paint to paint the entire jug orange. Once the paint is dry, use a black marker to draw the face onto the jug. You can leave the face the way it is or cut it out. Place one small glow stick or battery-operated candle inside each jug. Line them up on the porch, patio or window for everyone to see.
  • Beautiful Halloween Centerpiece: Use mini pumpkins, gourds and candy corn to create a seasonal centerpiece. There are several ways to do this, from placing the candy corn inside small jars to scattering the mini pumpkins around the center of the table. Add a bit of elegance by placing the items around a candle or fall-colored flower arrangement.
  • Out of The Bat Cave: Draw and cut out bats from dark purple or black construction paper. Glue a pair of googly eyes to each bat. Use a hole puncher and string to hang the bats from the ceiling, wall, window, porch or trees. Hang them upside down for sleeping bats, or right-side-up for flying bats!
  • Candy Bowl: Are you expecting trick-or-treaters this year? Maybe you are planning to throw a Halloween party. You need something fun to hold those delicious treats. You can create your own Halloween candy bowl using an orange or white ceramic bowl and black Sharpie. Create your design on the outside of the bowl and place it in the oven at 360 degrees for 30 minutes. Let it cool and fill it with treats. You can also use an oversized ceramic mug for this project
  • Spooky Ghosts: Place a piece of shredded cheesecloth over a Styrofoam ball. You can tie it in place under the ball or let the cheesecloth hang freely. Use a black marker or paint to create the face. Hang each ghost on your porch or inside your home.
  • Bloody Prints on The Door: You can create your own bloody handprints using large white paper and red finger paint. All you have to do is dip your hands into the paint and leave your handprint on the paper. You can even take it up a notch with bloody footprints. Once it is dry, hang the paper on front door to creep out your guests.

There is no reason to go over your budget when you can create your own Halloween decorations. The best part is you can create one of a kind decorations that would not be found in stores. DIY Halloween projects are easy, fun and a great way to celebrate the season.
