Dental Coverage Under the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare
With the Affordable Care Act deadline looming, people with no health coverage are scrambling to have a better understanding of what is and isn’t covered when you purchase it. One of the questions that people often ask is about dental coverage. Are they included in these plans that they can choose from? Dental coverage for adults is not automatically included in the health plan they buy into, but they can certainly purchase it separately in the exchange and coverage varies depending on which state you reside in and your income level.
However, coverage for children 19yrs and under is mandatory although states have the option of extending benefits through 21yrs of age and is quite limited when it comes to what the benefits are. For example, a child can be covered for basic cleaning, but if they need to have a cavity fixed, the parents will have to pay out-of-pocket expenses.
