Dental Health Tips for Infants and Children

Similar to general health, the health of your child’s mouth is extremely important. After all, we only get one set of teeth! Well, one set of permanent teeth. From infancy, being conscious and promoting the health of your child’s (or children’s) teeth and mouth is essential to their development.

Remember, healthy gums produce healthy baby teeth. That being said, gently wiping the baby’s gum after every feeding with soft gauze will help keep their gums healthy. From six to 12 months is generally the time a baby starts “cutting” their first tooth, which are typically the lower front two. We understand how painful it can be for parents to enduring the trying times of teething, a cool teething ring works wonders to help ease their pain.

As soon as your child’ teeth start to erupt is when you should begin brushing them. Until they are able to spit out toothpaste, just use a brush (a soft one of course) and water after every meal. The earlier you introduce and teach your child to floss, the better.

When brushing and flossing become habits, your child will most likely have healthy teeth. Annual or bi-annual visits to the dentist also help ensure you’re the health of your child’s mouth.
