Making Springbreak memorable and healthy can be a challenge, especially if you cannot leave the area or your budget says a “staycation” is all you can afford. There are ways to have a fun DIY Springbreak that will not break the bank, and help you meet or exceed fitness goals. When you explore local attractions and destinations, mind and body can be stimulated and entertained in unique and fun ways.

Look For Attractions That Are New Experiences

If you live near a beach, consider going for a swim, walk, or run in the sand. If your local beach has people who offer lessons in something you have never done before, (like ocean fishing, volleyball, surfing, or biking) take a risk and an afternoon or two learning something new while treating your body to a different way to exercise. If walking or hiking is an exercise you would like to focus on, find a park or trails near your home that you have not explored and have fun seeing new places. You should be sure to take plenty of water or healthy hydration drinks and snacks or a picnic to refuel and energize your body. Aquariums, museums, and other indoor attractions also provide you with a way to have fun and get exercise at the same time if the weather is not cooperating with your plan to get outside. Be aware that there may be more people interested in doing these activities during Springbreak than at other times of the year.

Ask Friends and Family for Suggestions

If you are new to an area, or just new to exploring where you live, ask around for suggestions of places to visit for Springbreak. Friends and family may know about hidden gems like gardens, out of the way attractions, and places to go where you can get extra exercise. Suggesting to people who are close to you that improving your health is a top priority may inspire them to join you in a free yoga class or other shared activity.

Check With Your Local Library, Community Center, or Non-Profit

A growing trend in libraries and community centers is to offer free classes to people who are interested in learning new activities (especially during Springbreak.) Ballroom dancing, yoga, belly dancing, martial arts, health classes, and volunteer opportunities may be something you would be interested in doing during Springbreak. You may be able to find volunteer information posted at these organizations if you are interested in helping out in your community. Some churches and civic organizations are looking for people to help on projects like: rebuilding or refurbishing homes of elderly people or those in need.

Springbreak doesn’t have to be boring if you choose not to go out of town. You can get involved in many different activities that will help keep you fit or increase your fitness levels. Even if you live in a small community, chances are, you can find some activities or locations to visit nearby that entertain and challenge you. Springbreak can be a time to make memories and have a great time.
