When Should a Child’s First Visit to the Dentist Be?

The American Dental Association (ADA) generally recommends a child’s first trip to the dentist by the age of 1.  It sounds so early.  However, in the majority of babies, teeth start to emerge anywhere from 4 to 7 months old.  The best way to protect your child from developing dental problems is to be proactive.  Do not wait to visit until an emergency situation.  By bringing your child to visit to a pediatric dentist early you can gain knowledge on how to properly maintain your child’s teeth and prevent future dental problems.  It teaches your child not to fear a visit to the dentist.  If dental problem does arise, most likely it will be a minor dental problem and can be solved in the least invasive way.
